Renu To Install First Solar System On A City Building In Winston

Renu Energy Solutions’ Commercial Division is set to install the first commercial PV solar system for a government building in Winston-Salem, NC. The Bryce A. Stuart Municipal Building in downtown Winston-Salem measures at 107,000 square feet with five stories. Last November, the city council approved Renu’s contract at $189,000 for the 70-kilowatt system. The commercial division looks forward to installing this system, as the division is familiar with installing large projects in the area.

The city expects to save $7,000 annually by powering the Bryce A. Stuart Municipal Building with solar energy. With a system lifespan of 25 years, the power savings should pay for the system’s total cost in 19 years. The 2022 Federal Inflation Reduction Act should provide the city with funds to cover 30% of the installation, which makes the total system cost $132,520.

Last December, Renu installed a $589,000 352-kilowatt system on top of the Truliant Federal Credit Union operations center at Hanes Mall. The operations center was formerly the Macy’s building which now has the largest rooftop solar system in the county.

Projects like these aim to help the city of Winston-Salem reach their goal of using 50% renewable energy by 2030.

4,000 Duke Energy Customers Lose Power For Reasons Unknown

4,000 Duke Energy Customers Lose Power For Reasons Unknown

Before 8am on Sunday morning, nearly 4,000 Duke Energy customers lost power around Nations Ford Road and Arrowood Road. Duke Energy officials state there were two separate outages affecting customers in these areas, and the cause for the outage is unknown. Customers stayed without power for a little over four hours until power was restored around noon.

Most energy customers expect to lose power from extreme weather events like hurricanes, thunderstorms, or even arctic blasts. Sometimes, utility companies experience outages for unknown reasons, which makes energy security more important to have. Unpredictable outages can be prevented with energy storage. Solar Power World Covers Renu’s Involvement With The Wolf Pack

The COVID-19 pandemic caused economic uncertainty as lockdowns took effect and many American industries were put on hold. Some states designated solar contractors as essential workers who could continue operations through the early pandemic lockdowns with proper safety precautions in place.

New York was one state where solar installation ceased altogether. With no work flowing in, Long Island-based contractor SUNation Energy furloughed 80% of its staff, which left founder and CEO Scott Maskin searching for ways to keep his business afloat.

Seeking solace from someone in a similar position, Maskin called Mike Teresso, president of Baker Electric Home Energy of San Diego. After that, Maskin called Jay Radcliffe, president of Renu Energy Solutions in Charlotte, North Carolina. Then, the three company heads scheduled a conference call with Josh Powell, CEO of RevoluSun in Honolulu, and Andy Clemans, CEO of Streamline Solar in Phoenix.

That was the start of a collaboration between five solar contractors that has lasted longer than pandemic restrictions. Then “The Wolf Pack” was born.

Brewed with the sun: Wise Man goes solar

Wise Move: Wise Man Brewing goes solar

Winston-Salem, NC – APRIL, 18, 2018 – Winston-Salem’s Wise Man Brewing is pleased to announce they have completed a 34-kiloWatt solar energy installation on their building’s roof, located at 826 Angelo Brothers Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. On Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, 2018, the brewery will host an event celebrating clean energy and marking the brewery’s recent sustainability strides.

Wise Man’s owners have taken steps to make the most of their solar, including thicker insulation, LED lights, and high-efficiency water taps for brewing. With these energy-saving improvements, they expect to see the electric usage decline even while beer production increases.

Wise Man Brewing Co-Founder Jason Morehead describes their solar plan this way: “We have always had a focus on sustainability, but getting a brewery off the ground is a monumental task. Now that we’re up and running, we’ve been able to take a step back and focus more on our footprint. Being an environmentally friendly brewery is central to being a good neighbor and responsible business.”

Spencer Warmuth, a Wise Man “Beer Scholar” who helped spearhead the solar effort, adds, “Our taproom customers know that community is core to Wise Man’s culture, and our move to use solar highlights this commitment. We’re looking forward to serving up beers that are among North Carolina’s first brewed with sunshine.”

Representing the building’s owner, Drew Gerstmeyer says, “Wise Man has been a vibrant addition to the growing community of excellent businesses in Winston’s entertainment district. We were happy to do our part by lending the building’s roof to help with Wise Man’s conversion to solar power.”

Wise Man Brewing is displaying the benefits of affordable, reliable solar energy for its bottomline by reducing electric utility bill costs, for averting the need for costly new power plants, and for a sustainable world. The brewery recently celebrated its first anniversary.

Renu Energy Solutions, the solar installer on the project, has provided solar energy systems for home and business since 2010 and is proud to partner with Wise Man Brewing as they join the renewable energy revolution and celebrate Earth Day 2018.
