Asked Questions

How exactly does going solar and a solar system itself work?

Solar energy begins with sunlight that hits the panels to produce energy that flows into your inverter, which converts the DC energy into Alternating Current (AC) electricity that can be used to power your home. This same energy is then consumed when powering your home’s light, appliances, gizmos, and gadgets. If you feel your home isn’t producing the energy that it needs, the utility will fill in the gaps. If you system produces more energy than needed, that energy will go to the grid and your utility will credit you for the unused power.

How many solar panels do I need for my home?

At Renu Energy Solutions we design our solar panel systems size based on three main factors.
Roof-size/available space: When we look at the size of your roof and the space available, we gather data that tell us the maximum number of solar panels your home or site can hold and we even consider shading. We use a software “Suneye” which takes a 360 picture of your roof and we use this photo to determine if your home is a good candidate for solar.

Energy Usage: When we determine energy usage we look at your past electrical bills from over the course of a year to make sure your system isn’t too big or too small.

Your Budget: We take your budget seriously and most importantly, we want you to be satisfied with our services. We take your feedback on how much you want to spend so that we can size your system appropriately.

What is solar net-metering?

Net-metering is a type of utility policy that controls how your system is connected to the grid and how you are credited for the solar energy you produce.

Does Duke Energy offer net-metering?

Yes! Both Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress territories in NC offer net-metering when your homes goes solar. If you are interested in net-metering, no worries. Our team will guide you through the process as certain utilities have a different application procedure.

Curious about the cost of a home solar system?

When our clients ask this question, we immediately tell Tham about the federal tax credit that comes with going solar. The Federal tax credit for going solar is 26% in 2020. For example, if the total cost of you system was $22,000, when you subtract 26% you are then left with a $16,280 solar system. There is not set price for a home going solar as there are many factors that contribute to the total cost. The price of a solar home can range from $10k to $100k based on the size of your roof, energy usage, aesthetic preferences, and of course, budget.

ReNu Energy installed a third area of solar panels on our house. I used them during both phases of previous installations as their pricing was competitive and their service was very good. During this new project, they installed the panels, the cabling and the inverter in a manner we desired using existing pvc ducting inside our house; this negated any unsightly mechanisms on the house exterior. After the project was complete, they assisted me in applying for a rebate under the NC Solar Rebate program offered by Duke Power. Although the initial paperwork contained some errors, ReNu Energy made the proper business decision and refunded me the price difference for the mistake. I recommend them for new solar panel installation as they ultimately performed the job according to my desires and satisfaction and the stood behind their estimated contract price.

Last month we completed the install of solar panels on our new house. We started the process of solar with a larger nationwide company, but after talking with the Renu sales rep, we canceled that contract and have had no regrets. Not only were they more affordable, but they were informative, educating us that not every solar panel and solar panel set-up is created equal. After a little online research, we were able to quickly verify that the panels, converters, etc that Renu was offering were top of the line. Whereas the other company... let's just say I had difficulty finding any information on the "off-brand" panels they said they'd be installing. Communication throughout the entire process was prompt, professional, and courteous. We just got our first billing statement after the install, and we produced more energy than we used! I can't tell you how good that feels.

I’ve been tossing around the idea of solar for quite awhile but there was always something holding me back. Cooper at Renu though was patient and never pressured me to pull the trigger and when I was ready, he pulled everything together and made it happen. Install was on time, and only problem we had was with Duke Energy being slow. Post sale they have been great as well and were very helpful with questions.

The biggest problem I have had is communication. Information and timelines has had to be pulled from them with many emails rather than being conveyed to me. As of mid October, I have yet to have my system turned on and I started the process in July. During the install there was an issue with a module and I was not informed that they had to come back and replace it. While inspections are out of thier hands and may take awhile to get county/energy companies to do thier part, Renu doesn't help matters by failing to set up appointments. If you wait for them to email you and be productive on thier end you will be waiting for awhile... Renu needs to work on the efficiency of thier process and be more proactive with the customers. So far I don't regret going with renu, but they have made it so much harder and longer than is reasonable.

I chose Renu based on the recommendation of a coworker. Preinstall service was great. Since my system has been turned on in July, it’s only worked consistently for one month. Response to my issue has been slow, replies to emails have taken days, and multiple people have had to be included on my end to get a reply. This result in a service appointment where no one showed up. I had to reach out to them to find out why they didn’t show up. So far, I have a $24k mistake sitting on my roof. My electric bill was only reduced by $20-$40 nowhere near what I was lead to believe it would be and nowhere near what my payment for the system is.

In late January 2022, I signed a contract for a 9.97 Kwh system with Renu based on the sales rep's assurance that the process would take 16 weeks (including Tesla Powerwall installation). I chose Renu over a local company in Greenville, SC based on these misrepresentations.  What a monumental mistake!  It is now the last day of September. The panels were installed in late July.  Powerwall MAY arrive in October, but I have had such assurances earlier.  I have one bad panel, the system only feeds 80% of what I was promised into the grid, and no attempt at repair in spite of multiple (i.e. very many) emails to their office. I would give them a 1star if it weren't for their field staff.  There office and sales staff deserve less than that.  Renu is all about the sale, not the service

I shopped around with six other companies and Renu received my business simply because they provided me with real honest information upfront and every step along this journey they maintained my trust.
